Life support fails

Article Abstract:

In 1998 the UN released its biennial population update reducing the projected world population for 2050 from 9.4 billion to 8.9 billion. Regions where death rates are rising are sub-Saharan Africa and the India subcontinent where the specific threats are the HIV epidemic, water shortages, and decreasing cropland per person. The UN looks to expanding international reproductive health and family planning assistance as food shortages will accompany the population growth in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Pakistan.
