Moscow's testing ground for new forms of economic and political life

Article Abstract:

The Soviet Union needs reforms on three aspects to establish a new society different from the socialist model. The USSR has to shift from state ownership to an economic system which allows multiple ownership. A democratic state would mean a multiparty system which ensures the promotion of pluralistic forms of ownership. Most importantly, the USSR must encourage the development of different ideologies and the independence of the divergent nationalities under its banner. Given these requirements and the prevailing situation in the USSR, the most appropriate political option would be a center-radical coalition.

Revitalization of socialism or restoration of capitalism?

Article Abstract:

The integration of socialism with the capitalist form of production and society as a way of Soviet life is virtually impossible. The transition to market liberalism essentially requires the death of totalitarianism. Perestroika was an initiative of the Communist Party conceived to strengthen the existing socialist and communist structures. Unfortunately, democratic reforms have been restrained by party monopoly of power and industry. Therefore, the Soviets should restore the structures and institutions of society which existed before their transformation to socialism.

The dismal fate of Soviet-type economies: Mises was right

Article Abstract:

The Soviet-type economy of the eastern bloc nations was analyzed using the theories of economist Ludwig von Mises. Slow economic growth, poor dynamic efficiency, low living standards and uneven income distribution were the results of 40 years with this type of economy despite numerous attempts at reform. This phenomenon was caused by the imprecise analysis of factors of production and an inaccurate system of incentives. The change to a market type economy currently poses massive socio-economic problems for reformers.
