Self-determination and the virtues of empire

Article Abstract:

Former USSR's Mikhail Gorbachev, US' George Bush and France's Francois Mitterand discussed the pursuit of self-determination by the former Soviet states. Gorbachev believes that, with national identity being a most serious dilemma, sovereignty should not be made absolute.

Many democratic movement supporters in Russia were caught unprepared for victory. The Russian economy is in shambles and the national steps being taken are far from enough. Many fear this current state might trigger a return to communism.
