Non-consequentialism, the person as an end-in-itself, and the significance of status

Article Abstract:

A discussion of a structural non-consequentialist moral theory is presented. Non-consequentialism considers the concept of not having to maximize overall best consequences and an understanding of existing constraints pertaining to the promotion of overall best consequences. Assorted works of Shelley Kagan, Warren Quinn and Jarvis Thomson are evaluated to further justify non-consequentialist structure elements.

Brain death and spontaneous breathing

Article Abstract:

Physiological death has been determined by cardiopulmonary criterion and accompanying respiration, and by whole brain death. Supporters of the whole brain death position should believe that, theoretically, human life could still exist without brain activity and spontaneous respiration.

Responsibility and collaboration

Article Abstract:

The author discusses the doctrine of negative moral responsibility and whether collaboration with evil which results in the death of others can, in some circumstances, be preferable to non-collaboration. Hypothetical case studies are used in the analysis.
