Profile: Is Taiwan's political and economic development an environmental nightmare?

Article Abstract:

The new democratic governments in the late 1980s started to pursue economic growth at the expense of environmental policy reform and Taiwan's rapid political, economic and industrial growth has put heavy pressure on the natural environment. There is a deterioration of Taiwan's natural resource base and there is an imperative need for her policy-makers to develop strategies to sustain economic growth and protect the environment for future generations.

Islam, globalization, and economic performance in the Middle East

Article Abstract:

An insight into the need for the growth of the economic performance of the Middle East, which is sitting on a demographic time bomb with the population expected to rise by 25 percent by 2010 is presented. The fact that measures necessary to accelerate economic growth, like successful cross-border economic integration may be caught in the net of public opinion about globalization and religion is highlighted.

Social citizenship and the environment

Article Abstract:

Social citizenship, an ideal and practice that is undergoing a substantial reconsideration and regarded as requiring high economic growth and the spread of market economy is studied. An attempt is made to reveal the extent of the nature of social citizenship and its relationship with sustainability.
