Promise to protect

Article Abstract:

The UN Security Council recognized the need for more robust mandates for peacekeeping missions to shield civilians under imminent threat and UN World Summit in September 2005 declared a 'collective responsibility' to protect lives of civilians at risk of a human rights atrocities. The protection of displaced civilians, in war and peace, must become a political and security priority, as well as a humanitarian one.

Refugees without borders

Article Abstract:

The number of people displaced from their own countries is rising as tensions between groups increase. The United Nations is taking steps to ensure that the displaced persons are protected under laws and receive basic human rights so that large populations are not forced to leave. The legal and political concerns about the issue are examined.
