Ready to resist

Article Abstract:

The Iranian negotiators suddenly and unexpectedly caved in to international pressure by immediately halting uranium enrichment, and though Iran claims to be pursuing only a peaceful programme of civilian energy, the discovery of particles of highly-enriched uranium at their nuclear sites strongly suggested the existence of covert weapons programme. Diplomatic and political sanctions against Tehran proved much more powerful than any economic measures, thus Iran's diplomatic representation could be scaled down in the same way Canada sanctioned Tehran.

China card fails

Article Abstract:

Washington reached for the China card to stop disastrous development of the possibility of a North Korean nuclear test, but the fact that the test went test ahead, demonstrates that the White House overestimated Beijing's foreign policy prowess. It also reflects Beijing's policy, which, while it would ultimately like to see a reversal of North Korea's nuclear programme, puts even more value on a stable North that does not implode under US pressure.

Times for a threesome: European leadership and America

Article Abstract:

The leaders of Britain, France and Germany attempted to coordinate their response to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001. Further reports states that regular Franco-German meetings developed in the early years of the European Economic Community in the 1950s, but BritainEs presence in Europe's most exclusive club is a more recent development.
