A democratic route to socialism was an ambition that had informed Salvador Allende, who was elected as the Socialist president of Chile, political career for two decades. He was elected on a platform of building a democratic road to socialism and had stressed his pledge in his inaugural address and in his political afterlife he had finally triumphed over Pinochet but at the cost of disappearing the democratic route to socialism.
