Soul searching

Article Abstract:

The presence of thousands of United Nations (UN) peacekeeping troops in south Lebanon to prevent another round of hostilities between the Hizbollah and Israel offers the right environment for some soul searching. Both countries must question how a border skirmish in which two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and eight others killed turned into a war that ended with the death of more than 1,700 people and so much devastation on both sides.

A narration of image of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon both internationally and domestically who is divisive force in Israeli and Middle Eastern Politics is presented. In his years as Prime Minister he reinvented himself as father figure in Israeli two decades and at times hated by peace camp in Israel and large parts of the International community is changed to sudden waves of warmth and appreciation after hearing his grave condition.

Article Abstract:

The disengagement from Gaza and parts of the West Bank highlights some of Israel's social, democratic and military strengths and weaknesses. The Gaza disengagement can be understood as an attempt both to address the demographic threat to the Jewish nature of the state and reduce the military burden of protecting settlement block of a hostile Palestinian population.
