Standing Consultative Commission addresses ABM Treaty issues

Article Abstract:

The Standing Consultative Commission (SCC) discussed the implications of the disintegration of the Soviet Union on the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty. The SCC proposed that the treaty be updated to reflect the geopolitical changes as well as existing strategic and technological conditions. The proposal requires the differentiation between ABM and non-ABM systems and the elimination of restrictions on space-based sensors.
