National freedom of action in EU environmental policy: the cases of Denmark and the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

The Netherlands has utilized a different approach in the formulation and promotion of its environmental policy compared with Denmark. It has participated in the formation of environmental standards both at the local and at the EU level. On the other hand, Denmark is less willing to participate at the EU level. This may be attributed to factors such as economic development and the national policy towards EU integration.
