Structured query language: an instructional tool for public administration

Article Abstract:

Progress in data management and processing has improved the capacity of public policy makers and administrators to decode single-purpose data into what they need for decision making and management. Several public agencies are implementing structured query language and comparable relational data base applications to effect more efficient and higher productivity. Through computer-aided instruction, public administrators should learn to apply the concepts and techniques of relational data bases.

Transformation from public administration to management

Article Abstract:

The theory and practice of public administration based on heirarchical order and bureaucratic equality is being challenged by the new theory of public management. The conversion of Hong Kong's public sector from administration to the new public management (NPM) may serve its purpose, however, the concept of NPM is not the appropriate answer to all problems.
