Article Abstract:

This article explores the meanings behind shariah, Sunnism, and jihad. The author, arguing these terms are often used in ignorance, maintains shariah is a set of guiding principles that is subject to change and interpretation, Sunnism is a sect of Islam in which the followers believe the prophet Mohammed did not appoint a successor, and jihad means struggle and, though it can be violent, usually refers to the struggle of peace.

The malaise of Islam

Article Abstract:

The Muslim communities all over the world are plagued by violence, poverty, and instability since their freedom from colonial rulers and they have not attained the brotherhood in the faith that was urged by the Prophet Muhammad. The faith itself, which asks each disciple to pursue his own conscience in setting the rules of governance for nation, is incompatible with democratic stability, and this is the malaise of Islam.
