Swedish gender equality - segregated subordination or success?

Article Abstract:

Swedish women enjoy greater gender-equality due to the state's general suffrage and labor policies. Sweden's public policies aim to create equal opportunities for men and women in the labor market, family, and politics. The policy discourages gender discrimination in the work place and encourages all individuals to become economically independent. Hence, the employment participation rates of men and women are almost equal. Women's organisations are striving to eliminate subordination of women and allow them free expression outside the precincts of male-oriented democratic institutions.

The Swedish Halland Ridge scandal

Article Abstract:

Details surrounding the discharge of highly polluted drainage water containing toxic akrylamid and metylolakrylamid from the tunneling worksite in the vicinity of Bastad in southern Sweden are presented. The toxic substances came from the plastic gel hardener called Rhoca-Gil which the construction firm SKANSKA injected in bedrock fissures to stop groundwater flow at the worksite. The pollution caused the death of cows, contamination of potable water and a boycott on vegetables and meat products coming from the area.
