The Cassandras are prophesying again

Article Abstract:

The results of the 1996 election in India are difficult to predict, but some predictions are dire because the political parties are in disarray, charges of political corruption are pending and the economic reforms inspired by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have slowed. Prime Minister Narasimha Rao was perceived as just a faithful lackey of the Gandhi family without much charisma until Rajiv Gandhi's assassination and his regime has failed to achieve anything of note. While the fortunes of Rao and the Congress party are difficult to foresee, no non-Congress national government has ever lasted.

Don't forget the deity

Article Abstract:

The United Nations' regulation of foreign policy is a profoundly moral concept. The moral basis is founded in international agreements regulating human rights or welfare conditions. In order for interdependence to succeed, regulations governing values and norms must be fortified with religious teachings. Religions and religious teaching must be compatible if they are to be accepted by all in an international arena.

Forget ideology, give them onions!

Article Abstract:

India will vote in Feb and Mar 1998 to establish a new parliament. This government, as its predecessors since 1992, will likely function best as a series of coalitions. The newest coalition will probably be dominated by either the Congress Party or the Bharatiya Janata Party. The departing United Front coalition has made radical changes in foreign policy and lowered corruption.
