The political landscape of aging policy: important actors and trends

Article Abstract:

The response of human resource managers to the issue of workforce aging will be shaped by political limitations. While this issue is receiving relatively more attention from US policymakers, efforts to introduce laws and programs to benefit older workers are limited by political realities, including limits on domestic program appropriations and the need to offset new programs with new taxes or reductions in existing entitlements. Other issues that personnel managers need to examine are the youth's negative views of the elderly and political differences among interest groups.

"Victimhood" and the implementation of sexual harassment policy

Article Abstract:

Many organizations have introduced sexual harassment policies. However, formal reporting rates are very low despite general employee awareness of these policies and high incidents of sexual harassment. A study, which involved administration of survey to employees of two government organizations, was conducted to discover the reasons behind this conundrum. Findings revealed that victims are threatened by potential negative consequences. Refusal to recognize 'victimhood' is another reason for the low formal reporting rate.
