The EC's wonderland: an overview of the Pan-European harmonised origin protocols

Article Abstract:

A review has been done to provide an overview of the system of origin rules in the harmonised protocols. Such review contends that the protocols offer opportunities for economic operators interested in trade across the European continent. These harmonised protocols have been considered to be an improvement over the conventional trading system. These protocols offer better sourcing opportunities than the original texts and the improved cumulation provisions have made it easier for foreign companies to source parts in Central Europe and for the European Union to claim tariff preferences.

New battle lines in the anti-dumping war: recent movements on the European front

Article Abstract:

The influx of anti-dumping cases at the World Trade Organization has driven the commission to liberalize some of its regulations. The recent adoption of a community interest criterion in the imposition of duties is likewise a welcome change, since the interest of the consumers is taken into consideration. In general, all efforts are directed towards preventing abusive implementation of the anti-dumping law as a means by any country to take control of the market.
