The HIV/AIDS controversy and capitalist science

Article Abstract:

David Barnov draws an interesting comparison between Taylorism and HIV/AIDS behavior-modifications models in Puerto Rico, complaining that the strategic focus of behavior modification is on the acceptance of conditions of colonial rule through individual-level behavior change rather than addressing the broader oppressive social conditions. Barnov is right to denounce the effects of US neo-colonial rule in Puerto Rico and the way in which the behavior-modification models used by those following Centers for Disease control (CDC) inspiration contribute to social control.
