The Quinlan case revisited

Article Abstract:

M.L. Tina Stevens takes too narrow a view in claiming that the main issue in the Quinlan case was that the physicians wanted to be immune from civil and criminal liability if they withdrew treatment from this comatose patient. The issues surrounding the withdrawal of treatment from patients in chronic vegetative states are also economic, philosophical and psychosocial. These issues were unsettled at the time of the Quinlan case and still remain unsettled.
