The Treasury and Public Investment: A Perspective on Inter-War Economic Management

Article Abstract:

The forces for and against large government expenditures to alleviate unemployment in Great Britain between the two World Wars are examined. The opposing viewpoints of some government officials and economists are explained. There is a history of public employment in Great Britain during the period. A graph and table show unemployment figures as well as employment programs. There is an analysis of attempts to overcome constraints of the administration.
