The state and industrial followers: Japanese versus French computer strategy, 1960s-1980s

Article Abstract:

Market-conforming strategies made the Japanese computer industry successful by working within the existing terms of international competition. On the other hand, France's failure to comply with international norms has brought about the corresponding failure of its computer industry. Japanese computer companies were able to manufacture high-quality components to improve the price performance of final systems products. Competitive success on domestic market was measured in terms of speed and effectiveness of the product in the international market.
