The vanishing center

Article Abstract:

The polarization of Russia's electoral politics axis over the last two years has hindered the development of centrist parties in Russia, and accounts for the unstable politics that were accentuated in the 1995 elections. Five years after the breakup of the Soviet Union, centrism remains a mouthpiece of organizations with a vague ideology that neither support nor oppose the social revolution. Weak, interest-based centrist parties, lacking significant electoral support, face a bleak political future. The transfer of executive power through democratic elections can bring stability in Russia.
