UNICOR's strategic planning process: a developmental model

Article Abstract:

The corporate strategic planning process is considered an indispensable tool for today's cost-conscious corporations. The design and implementation by UNICOR or the Federal Prison Industries Inc. of a corporate plan is analyzed. Results indicate that the process is as important as the outcome. Its success requires the cooperation of all levels in the organization such as top managers who need to open up to personnel and employees who should be rewarded for their contribution to the process. The process furthermore needs to reflect corporate culture to be acceptable.

National security and domestic policy-making: the similarities and critical differences

Article Abstract:

There are more critical similarities than differences between domestic and national security policy-making. Research shows similarities between the policy making processes of domestic and national security institutions despite their differences in organizational cultures, size, issues addressed, responsibilities and bureaucratic design. Essential differences that affect policy-making are secrecy, personnel continuity, presidential ability and contextual obedience which are evident in the field of national security.

Unmasking economics: a critical perspective

Article Abstract:

The practitioners of public administration should develop an economic paradigm distinct from the economic ideas taught in business colleges. It must embody economic perspectives that center on political economy and take into consideration descriptive and analytical investigations of the state and their relationship with the economy. A critical study of political economy will aid practitioners of public administration in promoting public interest.
