Article Abstract:

This article examines international efforts to manage the global AIDs epidemic, focusing on the affordable distribution of antiretroviral drugs in developing countries. Issues include a the establishment of an international fund to buy the drugs at the best prices, Western aid in improving poorer countries' infrastructure to better disperse them, and the ability of governments to devote resources to this challenge.

This article discusses the international community's efforts to address the AIDS crises. Issues include poverty as a contributing factor to the epidemic, but it is also prevalent among people in a higher socioeconomic bracket due to the ability of men to purchase sex; the disease is also an obstacle to economic and social progress in many developing countries.
