Watch out - missiles about!

Article Abstract:

Efforts to formulate ballistic missile defense policies may not be on the front burner but should definitely be addressed. The technology of missile defense has changed dramatically since the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Defense treaty, to where the distinction between strategic and tactical weapons is no longer clear. The subject is divisive among Allied countries and even within the U.S. Allies should work together to prevent the use of space to store and launch weapons.

Ecology and world security

Article Abstract:

Environmental issues and national security issues are converging. For instance, The development of nuclear fusion could drastically reduce greenhouse gases. Water rights disputes are on the rise as water consumption and desertification increase. There is precedent for a synthesis of environmental and security concerns, and the potential military ramifications of the greenhouse effect and water disputes demand an integrated approach.

European and Atlantic security in a period of ambiguity

Article Abstract:

Assuring security in 1990s Europe goes beyond nuclear deterrence and protecting individual nation-states. European conflict is now ethnic or religious and its goal is not to rule over a larger portion of the European land mass. One goal of the new European security order is to make sure there is no renationalization of defense and that this sector remains a cooperative undertaking of which the US and NATO are still important parts.
