A neuropsychological argument for a processing view of memory

Article Abstract:

The debate between the dual store view of short-term and long-term memories, and the processing view that locates storage and processing in the same neural units, is examined. A study of a brain damaged patient reveals that her pattern of memory performance is more suitable to a process account than a dual store approach to memory and that the patient uses lexico-semantic information and not phono-articulatory information irrespective of the type of task.

Effects of cumulative frequency, but not of frequency trajectory, in lexical decision times of older adults and patients with Alzheimer's disease

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the issue of age-limited learning effects on visual lexical decision in normal and pathological aging, by using words with different frequency trajectories and cumulative frequencies. Findings that are based on objective measures of frequency trajectory show little or no age of acquisition effects in lexical decision of healthy older adults and people with the Alzheimer's type disease.

What does cross-linguistic variation in semantic coordination of speech and gesture reveal? Evidence for an interface representation of spatial thinking

Article Abstract:

The cognitive process that leads to gesture production and the relationship between the latter and speech production is investigated through a cross-linguistic comparison in Turkish, Japanese, and English. The findings indicate that spatio-motoric processes that interact with the speech production process generate gestures.
