A new generation: new intellectual opportunities

Article Abstract:

The third post-1970 generation of developmental psychologists incorporated related sciences in their research on the human developmental process. The first post-1970 generation of developmental psychologists was devoted to experimental psychology based on fixed methods that were aimed at the discovery of laws that govern human psychological development. On the other hand, the second generation of psychologists developed techniques and methods for the practical application of developmental psychology in real life situations.

Religion, community service, and identity in American youth

Article Abstract:

Evidence linking community service and religiousness in American youth demonstrates the importance of religion to the formation of identity. Data show that youth are heavily involved in volunteer service and see religion as important. Those involved in church-sponsored service are morel likely to adopt the religious rationale. This suggests that youths who take religion seriously are actively engaged in their schooling, in the development of identities and in the betterment of communities.

Reimagining development: possibilities from the study of children's art

Article Abstract:

Changes taking place in children's drawing have resulted from developmental theories and aesthetics being used by researchers in framing data. Images are acclaimed to be powerful in describing development since the occurrence of complex phenomena and variable paths of growth comes at a definite time. However, drawing development, from which man draws the capacity to invent and adapt, is never fixed and hence, varies from one culture to another.
