How developmental psychologists make their ideas clearer

Article Abstract:

The development of developmental or child psychology was characterized by three successive phases beginning with G. Stanley Hall's theories on the link between child development and evolution in the 1890s and 1900s. The first handbooks on child psychology such as 'Child Development' and 'American Journal of Orthopsychiatry' were published in the 1930s. Hall's handbook entitled 'Pedagogical Seminary' has been renamed 'Journal of Genetic Psychology.' Furthermore, the handbooks reflect the interconnected development of the theories and methods of child psychology.

Developmental psychology as an ethical enterprise

Article Abstract:

Brian Vandenberg's support of Levinas' philosophy brings to the surface the question of whether a moral orientation and ethical sentiments towards others are inherent in human psychology. Levinas provides a contemporary analysis of the ethical meaning of psychological research. His kind of approach shifts from the investigation of behavior to an assessment of conduct. The sensitive analyses of Levinas' and other philosophers' works will help highlight the moral and political projects embedded in developmental psychology.
