A note on Leiter's study

Article Abstract:

Criticisms of M.P. Leiter's model of burnout proposed in "Burnout as a Function of Communication Patterns," published in Group and Organization Studies, are discussed. Leiter's model is compared to Golembiewski and Munzenrider's eight-phase model, with specific focus on whether the models can deal with acute onset, chronic onset, and other conceptual issues. Because of their theoretical nature, both models cannot be correct. Results of an analysis of approximately 13,000 respondents of the Maslach Burnout Inventory show that Leiter's model cannot accommodate about 50% of the cases that can be classified using the phase model.

The alpha, beta, gamma change typology: perspectives on acceptance as well as resistance

Article Abstract:

Reactions to the alpha, beta, gamma change typology are examined by one of its original authors. Personal perspectives on the theory's initial reception are examined including behavioral scientists' reactions, reactions to the authors' rejection of alpha-only change, and reactions from survey producers and users. Additionally, the phase model's conveniences, including its ease of scoring and flexibility, are examined.

Conceptual implications of two models of burnout: a response to Golembiewski

Article Abstract:

The differences between the model of burnout created by Leiter and the phase model developed by Golembiewski are analyzed. The examination concentrates on the advantages of Leiter's method using the full range of the subscales compared to the phrase approach which involves the dichotomizing of the subscales. Directions are also suggested for future model building.
