A psycho-semiotic study of the adaption of Salvadoran families to Canada

Article Abstract:

This article uses a psychodynamic approach to examine the process of assimilation and adaption in a Salvadoran refugee population in Montreal, Canada. A semiotic analysis of the refugees' speech reveal conflicts related to cultural values, personal identity, family integration, and assimilation to the host society.

Companionable sleep: Social regulation of sleep and cosleeping in Egyptian families

Article Abstract:

Family sleep patterns and quality in a setting of normative napping and cosleeping are studied. Findings reveal that age and gender structured sleep arrangements and, along with locale, extensively are found to explain sleep behavior (onset, duration, total) and quality.

Alienated youth: help from families and schools

Article Abstract:

Implementing family mealtimes is one of the most important things parents can do to keep their children out of trouble. Shared meals allow parents and children to know and respect each other and can also increase the child's mental and verbal abilities.
