A psychometric typology of child abusers

Article Abstract:

Researchers used a psychometric battery of measures that assess a range of problems to survey 140 convicted untreated child abusers. Examination of offense histories found that high deviancy-men were more likely to have been convicted of a previous sexual offense, to have committed offenses against boys and girls, and others. They further found that low-deviancy men were more likely to be incest offenders, but high-deviancy men had also previously committed similar crimes. .

An assessment of the effectiveness of an intensive treatment program for severely mentally disturbed juvenile offenders

Article Abstract:

Mentally disturbed juvenile offenders who undergo treatment will reduce their risk of recidivism, including recidivism involving violent crimes, to rates similar to those of offenders in the general prison population. This suggests that mental illness alone may not be a risk factor as long as the offender is treated. This was confirmed by a study of offenders at the Ethan Allen School in Wales, WI.
