Comparison of offenders with early- and late-starting antisocial behavior in Colombia

Article Abstract:

Prisoners in Colombia, South America, who practiced antisocial behavior in childhood were more likely to display multiple problem behaviors than those whose antisocial behavior did not surface until after adolescence. Factors investigated included psychological abuse, severe punishment, and low self-esteem.

Social skills training, prosocial behavior, and aggressiveness in adult incarcerated offenders

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of social skills instruction on the behavior of a group of male inmates in the Netherlands. Findings indicate that training decreased social anxiety and enhanced positive feelings in social situations but had no effect on inmates' aggressive behavior.

Article Abstract:

Psychology in the criminal justice system has not fulfilled the promise it displayed in the 1960s and 1970s, primarily because practitioners are often overwhelmed with unreasonable case loads. Economic and systemic reasons also contribute to this state.
