Adolescents with a childhood experience of parental divorce: A longitudinal study of mental health and adjustment

Article Abstract:

The prospective Norwegian study was done to find the impact of parental divorce on adolescent development on a group of adolescents with an experience of parental divorce. Parental divorce had a negative effect on adolescent development, and was prospectively associated only with school problems for boys where as divorce was prospectively associated with all variables for girls emphasizing the importance of parent-adolescent relationship for adolescent development.

Evolved mechanisms in adolescent anxiety and depression symptoms: The role of the attachment and social rank systems

Article Abstract:

Adolescent students were assessed on measures of attachment, social rank, and depression and anxiety symptoms. The data indicated that insecure attachment sensitizes individuals to become focused on the competitive dynamic groups, the power of others to shame, hurt or reject and the need to defend against these possibilities.

Intergenerational value discrepancies in immigrant and host-national families and their impact on psychological adaptation

Article Abstract:

This article compares psychological adaptation and intergenerational values between teenagers with immigrant backgrounds and host peers. The authors argue that immigrant teenagers did not differ significantly from their host peers with regards to both adaptation and values.
