Adult attachment and marital interactions as predictors of whole family interactions during the transition to parenthood

Article Abstract:

The role of parental adult attachment and couples prenatal and postnatal marital interactions in predicting the quality of family interactions 24 months after the birth of the couple's first child is examined. The findings state that marital discord need not be expressed in the form to overt conflict in order to jeopardize the well being of the children and their families in which couples are openly conflictual but those in which partners have withdrawn from one another.

Work-parenting linkages among dual-earner couples at the transition to parenthood

Article Abstract:

Research on parenting in dual-income families indicates that while fathers' work experiences are not correlated with parenting effects, mothers who report more negative interpersonal relationships at work showed a decline in positive parenting and a rise in negative parenting over time. Policy implications include improving women's work experiences.
