Age-related and intelligence-related differences in implicit memory: effects of generation on a word-fragment completion test

Article Abstract:

Implicit memory has one component relying on perceptual processing with no developmental difference and the other relying on conceptual processing with an age or intelligence related increase. Children given a word-fragment completion test show significant priming under the generate condition. This priming is greater in the read condition. Adults show no difference in priming between the two conditions. Prior generation of words produces an age-related increase in priming despite no age difference in the read condition.

Shades of meaning: skin tone, racial attitudes, and constructive memory in African American children

Article Abstract:

Researchers investigated African American children's racial attitudes. Many of the 56 children, who were aged from five to seven years, displayed positive attitudes to all African American skin tones but some had a bias for lighter skin tones. The children had a better memory for details in stories which negatively depicted darker-skinned people and positively depicted lighter-skinned people better than for details depicting the reverse.

Implicit sequence learning in children

Article Abstract:

A study on the implicit learning abilities of children and adults was conducted. The implicit learning abilities in six to ten-year-old children and in 18 to 27 year old adults were examined using a serial reaction time task. The results indicate that the level of implicit learning was similar for both children and adults. This suggest that implicit learning abilities is present in the early part of development.
