Alcohol and aggressive personality styles: potentiators of serious physical aggression against wives?

Article Abstract:

A longitudinal study of the influences of alcohol use on aggression in marriage in 272 couples married for less than 18 months suggests that alcoholic husbands indulge in pre- and post-marriage aggression. The passage of time reduces the level of alcohol-induced physical abuse. However, the premarital aggressive behavior of husbands and not their alcoholism forces their spouses to seek divorce.

Physical aggression toward boys and girls in families characterized by the battering of women

Article Abstract:

In families where women are battered the children often suffer from physical aggression. Both parents tend to be more aggressive towards sons than daughters. Parental aggression is often intended to discipline children. But when fathers turn violent their sons show problems in externalizing behavior. Daughters try to behave extremely well in order to lessen the burden on the mothers.
