Use of personality assessment instruments in empirically guided treatment planning

Article Abstract:

Treatment planning and monitoring are crucial to mental health service delivery. Personality assessment instruments are used by psychologists to help in diagnosis and determination of treatment needs and aims, but psychological assessment is often viewed by managed-care companies and third party payers are reluctant to authorize such assessments, preferring that plans are based on clinical interviews. Research into the use of personality assessment instruments in empirically guided treatment planning is reviewed, noting its superiority over clinical interviewing methods.

Computerized adaptive assessment with the MMPI-2 in a clinical setting

Article Abstract:

A computerized form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) has been assessed using 140 hospital patients. The scales were administered using the countdown method, with participants completing the test twice, either under conditions of computerized conventional-computerized adaptive, or computerized conventional test-retest. The countdown method is supported in terms of validity by correlations between criterion measures and MMPI-2 scales. Test validity is little affected by information loss using this type of adaptive testing.
