An empirical analysis of eating disorder, not otherwise specified: preliminary support for a distinct subgroup

Article Abstract:

The eating disorder, not otherwise specified (EDNOS) diagnostic category described in the fourth edition of the 'Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders' is examined to empirically investigate the subgroups that exist within this category. In addition, the study seeks to determine the agreement between empirically and clinically derived subgroups. The findings indicate the existence of a distinct EDNOS subgroup that is similar to binge-eating disorder.
