Antibiotic resistance in Staphylococci isolated from the vaginas of captive female Leontopithecus (Callitrichidae-primates)

Article Abstract:

Samples of Staphylococcus species were isolated from the vaginas of clinically normal captive lion tamarins (Callitrichidae family) and tested for susceptibility to penicillin G, gentamicin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, trimathoprim-sulfamathoxazole, stretomycin, ampicillin and rifampicin to determine the antibiotic resistance of the isolates. High frequency of resistance was observed, suggesting that these species may play an important role in vaginitis and other infections of the urinary and reproductive tracts.

Isolation and identification of fungi from vaginal flora in three species of captive leontopithecus

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to identify the affect of infections such as vaginitis, cervicitis and endometritis on the reproductive behavior of three species of captive Leontopithecus such as L. rosalia, L. chysopygus and L. hrysomelas. The conclusion suggests that colonization of the vaginal environment is related to the endocrine pattern associated with the reproductive status of these animals.

Identification of Helicobacter sp. in gastric mucosa from captive marmosets (Callithrix sp.; Callitrichidae, primates)

Article Abstract:

Histologic specimens from the fundic, corpus, and antral gastric regions of six Callithrix Jacchus, 12 C. Kuhli and 12 C. geoffroyi specimens are evaluated to identify the presence of Helicobacter sp. in the gastric mucosa of captive marmosets (Callithrix sp.). The results demonstrate that marmosets are susceptible to naturally occurring Helicobacter sp. infection.
