Bioactive properties of plant species ingested by chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) in the Kibale National Park, Uganda

Article Abstract:

The biological activities of a selected sample of 24 species eaten by wild chimpanzees in the Kibale National Park, western Uganda to assess their potential chemotherapeutic values were measured. It showed that the chimpanzee diet includes compounds that likely offer medicinal benefits, such as reducing the level of pathogens and keeping chimpanzee health problems to a sub clinical level.

Testosterone and energetics in wild chimpanzees (pan troglodytes schweinfurthii)

Article Abstract:

The effects of both acute and chronic variation in energy availability on urinary testosterone levels in adult male chimpanzees are examined. Results suggest that data on hormonal function in captive chimpanzees should be interpreted with caution because individuals may produce testosterone at levels well above those that are typical in the wild.
