Body checking in the eating disorders: Associations between cognitions and behaviors

Article Abstract:

A study validates a novel measure of the cognitive distortions that drive eating disorders, namely, the Body Checking Cognitions Scale (BCCS), and examines the association between body checking cognitions, body checking behaviors, and general eating pathology. The BCCS is found to be reliable and valid, showing that eating-disordered women are significantly more likely to experience body checking cognitions than healthy women and that these cognitions are associated with a significant proportion of variance in eating pathology.
