Body mass index and environmental supports for physical activity among active and inactive residents of a U.S. southeastern county

Article Abstract:

The 2001 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System physical activity module was used in analyzing the relationship among physical activity, environmental factors and body mass index. A positive relation between lower levels of body mass index and higher physical activity. The significance of recreational facilities and trails in reducing obesity is examined.

The relationship between cardiac reactivity in the laboratory and real life

Article Abstract:

The conn ection between heart rate reactivity in real life and heart rate response to five different laboratory stressors is examined. Findings showed that increase in heart rate to laboratory stressors is not consistently associated with heart rate variaton. Increased heart rate reactivity as a risk for cardiovascular disease is also analyzed.

Temperament in childhood predicts body mass in adulthood: The cardiovascular risk in Young Finns Study

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted which examines associations of temperament at ages 6 to 12 with body-mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) at ages 24 to 30 years. The findings suggest that temperamental difficulty in childhood might be a useful risk indicator for general body mass in adulthood.
