Cerebral asymmetry and cognitive development in children: a magnetic resonance imaging study

Article Abstract:

There is a relationship between the asymmetry in the anatomically defined region of the auditory association cortex and early proficiency in cognitive development. Children differ in the timing of cortical differentiation, as it is a process of changing reciprocal interactions between genetic and environmental signals. The difference in the ability of children to learn to read may be due to this difference in cortical differentiation. There may also be a relation between the asymmetry of specific information processing regions and the learning of specific concepts.

On the need for a basic science approach to psychotherapy research

Article Abstract:

Clinical psychology therapy research should be carried out in conjunction with basic psychological science research to accelerate the development of solutions to the mental health problems shared by the profession, society and consumers. The scientist-practitioner model could also be realized through this approach. Basic scientific research and controlled therapy research are fundamentally the same and could be carried out to demonstrate cause-and-effect relationships.

Development of basic auditory discrimination in preschool children

Article Abstract:

Tests are conducted to determine whether young children have the same auditory abilities as adults andif any siginificant change in abilities takes place with age. Differential maturation of three basic auditory abilities are specifically examined. These are intensity (loudness), frequency (pitch) and duration discrimination. A sequential pattern of development for these three basic auditory abilities is found among children.
