Childhood onset schizophrenia: Cortical brain abnormalities as young adults

Article Abstract:

The comparability of childhood onset schizophrenia (COS) with adult onset illness is studied, with the help of patterns of patient control differences in cortical development, by obtaining neuro-anatomic magnetic resonance scans from children diagnosed with COS whose age and sex matched healthy controls. The COS group had significantly smaller mean cortical thickness compared to controls among the children of the sampled age range.
