Clinical variation of Maxillary Sinus Volume in Japanese Macaques (Macaca fuscata)

Article Abstract:

Macques are peculiar among cercopithecids because they have a maxillary sinus, and among anthropoids because they show a relatively weak relationship between the size of this sinus and the cranium. A sample of 46 Japanese macaque crania was tested via computed tomography (CT) imaging, and sinus volume and nasal cavity area were studied relative to latitude and temperature variables.

Highly polymorphic STR marker amplified with human DYS389 primers in Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata)

Article Abstract:

The potential utility of the human DYS389 primers for genetic studies on Japanese macaques is described. The results have suggested that the human DYS389 primers might be a potential tool not only for distinguishing between human and Japanese macaque DNA samples, but also for identifying individual macaques, because of the highly polymorphic alleles.

Genotyping from semen of wild Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata)

Article Abstract:

The copulation and masturbation events in wild habituated and nonhabituated troops of Japanese macaques on the protected island of Yakushima are described. The mating of a single male, indicating the presence of contaminant DNA that has previously mated with the same female and various other combinations for the DNA isolation are detected.
