Factors affecting length of stay on maximum security in a forensic psychiatric hospital

Article Abstract:

The article discusses demographic, legal and clinical variables affecting the length of stay in Maryland's only maximum-security forensic hospital for mentally ill patients adjudged not criminally responsible for violent crimes. The goal of the study was to determine what variables should be targeted for services while hospitalized and the results of the study indicated that gender and employment history prior to hospitalization had the greatest impact on length of hospital stay.
