Comparing risky decision making under conditions of real and hypothetical consequences

Article Abstract:

Risky decision making involving real and hypothetical consequences is investigated. Task variations include type of risk, within-subject and between-subjects consequence condition manipulation and single or multiple decisions. Subjects did not differ in preference between a 'sure thing' option and a gamble of equal expected value, as a function of the event where the consequence would or would not be realized.

Multiple methods for examining biased information use in contingency judgements

Article Abstract:

In order to make a decision, such as whether to give up smoking, people need to obtain information. This is known as contingency judgement. Problems may occur if the information is used incorrectly or is unavailable. Many researcher have looked into this aspect of information processing in making decisions. One result of this research is that decision-makers are adversely affected by negative information.

Phases narrowing: a new process tracing method for decision making

Article Abstract:

A new process tracing method called phased narrowing is discussed. The process combines both traditional process tracing methods and methods used to study the prescreening of choice options and the formation of consideration sets. The analysis of a three-stage decision making task showed that phased narrowing can determine the differential effects of choice attributes as well as changes in strategy usage.
