The nature of the mother's tie to her infant: Maternal bonding under conditions of proximity, separation, and potential loss

Article Abstract:

Attachment is generally viewed from the perspective of the infant. A study concentrated on mothers' post-partum thoughts and behaviours and maternal bonding was examined. Maternal trait anxiety and depression were linked to higher rates of preoccupations and reduced attachment behaviours and representations, independent of mother-child separation and infant medical condition.
