Constructing a rehabilitative reality in special religious wards in Israeli prisons

Article Abstract:

A prison is not an institution that rehabilitates criminals, rather its social and cultural realities suppress the ability of prisoners to construct new positive images of themselves and the world. Consequently, they do not abandon their criminal mentality. This study analyzes special features of prisons in Israel that have special wards for religious rehabilitation. These wards facilitate construction of a new noncriminal reality.
