Context effects in performance evaluation: the impact of ratee sex and performance level on performance ratings and behavioral recall

Article Abstract:

The effect of ratee sex and context performance level as moderators of context effects in performance ratings and in the recall of performance information are analyzed. Results show that target ratee sex and performance level determine the differences in the magnitude of contrast effects for an average target ratee. Findings further indicate that sex biases in performance ratings do not result in less positive judgments of women's performance but in more positive judgments of men's performance.

Sex, task, and behavioral flexibility effects on leadership perceptions

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the effects of sex and behavioral flexibility on leadership perceptions reveals that perceptions are higher for males and for people rating higher in behavioral flexibility. The study shows, however, that leadership perceptions are related little to sex-congruent tasks and that perceived target capabilities mediated the effects of sex and behavioral flexibility.
